vain miner problem

Okay I've googled this about ten thousand different ways and still have not been able to come up with an awnser so I will ask you guys about it? I picked vain miner and leveled it up to 3 and put it as the tilde key (~) the problem is it wont do what its supposed to do. I hold it and it doesn't do the whole vain so is their something I'm missing. I checked of anything elce was blinded to that key and it's not.
