Simple storage Vs Refined storage

Simple storage costs 1 knowledge and is really cheap to make a huge storage with it.
On the other hand refined storage needs 4 knowledge and 1 for power generation and is more expensive to make(I actually never used it).
So why do people sometimes don't even consider getting the simple storage and go for Rs or AE2?
Also I'm level 10 in VH and kind of new to modpacks in general
