So, why the use of Japanese?

I'm a Vaporwave enjoyer who also happens to have lived in Japan for a decade at this point, so I've always found the extensive use of Japanese a somewhat amusing aspect of the genre's aesthetic. I say amusing because the Japanese used is very often unnatural or just outright incorrect; it's clear stuff is just Google translated, which of course makes sense given it is pretty exclusively a Western genre. And it is fun for me to read all the broken Japanese on the albums and such. But I guess my question is: why Japanese in the first place? It makes sense for Future Funk, which samples heavily from Japanese music, but as far as I'm aware, the extensive use of slapdash Japanese in Vaporwave doesn't have any immediate link to the content of the music. It seems a tad out of place to me actually because so much of Vaporwave is about 80-90s American nostalgia.
