Hi!
Recently, I thought about a friendship I had back when I lived in Victoria that genuinely meant a lot to me. Though most of our visits consisted of evenings where we got together once a week, cooked, visited, and watched a show usually. Sometimes music was enjoyed as well, especially while cooking! Or maybe we'd decide to take a walk, or check out places with cool art. We also honestly didn't have a ton in common, but we found the similarities we did share, and built off of that while exposing each other to each of our differences in a way that was meaningful, exposed us to new experiences and conversations, and allowed a healthy friendship to grow! I appreciated it for that, and for being a friendship that got me out of the house. But, to be honest, I miss it for all that it was.
It was extremely meaningful to have a consistent friendship like that, especially as someone who often struggles to connect with others as a neurodivergent person (audhd).
Of course, that's what brings me here today. I'd love to put some energy into a new connection!
Perhaps this stems from my desire to better my eating habits and general lifestyle (I'm dealing with some health stuff, so trying to cook healthier meals in general would be quite good for me), or maybe the push to develop community out here as a newish person to the metro Vancouver area. But ultimately, I'd love to build some new platonic connections with people, especially those that I could get together with sometimes, and cook up some delicious meals with! I'm also open to trying out baking recipes too.
Although finding individual friends to cook with sounds like fun, and generally is my preferred way of connecting with people (as an introvert), I'm also down for cooking with small groups too. Maybe you know someone who'd want to join because it seems fun to cook some food, and watch a show after? Just, maybe keep it small otherwise it may get chaotic in the kitchen real fast 😅!
I love all types of food, and I'm genuinely down to try new foods, and experiment with existing recipes! Anything with loads of flavour is always a plus, and yes I'm okay with spicy! I'm open to cooking vegan, vegetarian, and meat dishes, though I'm not vegan or vegetarian myself. I would like to prioritize healthier foods, though. This is mostly because of the health stuff I am navigating at the moment.
We don't have to have everything in common either. Sometimes the most valuable friendships are those that expose you to fresh thoughts, different cultures, and new interests! Just come as you are, and I'd absolutely love to connect, and cook some food!
But what about me, anyways? I'm a 25 year old non binary person who falls somewhere on the asexual spectrum but generally identifies as queer openly as it best describes where I land in my identity. I also consider myself neurodivergent, and I hold values that align with alternative/punk culture. I love music (genuinely all styles of music, please expose me to more), nature stuff, gardening, fashion, anything spooky, art/creative expression, and anything sciency and nerdy is a big thing for me as well! But aside from that, I'm also pretty interested in trying out more outdoor activities as well as I recently developed an affinity for taking daytrips and doing small hikes through nature with my friends. There's more to me, of course. But feel free to message me, and tell me more about you too!
With all that said, what is your favourite types of food to cook? What would you want to try?:)
Oh and I'm open to travelling anywhere in the GVRD and Fraser Valley, though I'm in Coquitlam.
I look forward to hearing from some rad, and interesting people!
