I think I remember someone posting a similar thread awhile back, but I thought it wouldn't do any harm to post since this sub is pretty dead otherwise...

I was wondering what you guys think of Van's music in 2010 and what your favorite albums from this period are. I'm probably part of the vast minority in that I think his recent stuff has been just as good, if not better, than most of the stuff he did in the '70s (save Veedon Fleece, Into the Music, and maybe Saint Dominic's Preview or Hard Nose the Highway). Versatile and The Prophet Speaks especially were amazing in my opinion and some of the best work he's put out. Despite a lot of the songs technically being covers of earlier work, they were performed so differently (and in most cases better, in my opinion) from the originals that they felt completely new. It also seemed to me that Van had more freedom in the way he sang and was even experimenting more with vocalizations reminiscent of the '80s.

Positive or negative, I'd love to hear you guys' opinions on the last decade of Van's music!
