Index as a gift, how to give Alyx

I apologize in advance, as I'm sure this question has popped up elsewhere before (I promise I searched).
I am completely new to Steam but have purchased the Index as a gift for my nephew and want to make sure they have access to all the stuff when it comes. I know a copy of HL:A comes with the set, but it sounds like it comes bound to the account which ordered the Index (my account, as I don't want to ruin the christmas surprise) rather than as a code to be redeemed. Is there a way for me to get that copy of Alyx to him?
