Recession ? Explain please???

Can someone clarify what it takes to be in a recession and where we can track those elements such as quarterly GDP growth rate. Moreover apparently in order to be in a recession we need two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth rate… but we had 2 quarters of negative GDP growth in Q1 and Q2 so can someone clarify this for me?
