Hey Everyone, I wanted to get additional discussion going about our governmental system. I designed the government for Aeon on civ 2.0 and it worked very well for us, so Perhaps that is a good starting point?
Here is what we setup for Aeon "We would have a single body of government, a council of five members. Each council member would be voted into position and would have a term of Two months. Each member would be over there respective areas and they would each be able to hire temporary employees to complete tasks, IE build a building, or deliver a letter. This council will have complete ruling over each of there areas, but if there are two other council members that disagree with another members ruling they can call for a vote to overturn the ruling with a majority vote. If a citizen feels that a ruling is unfair than he/she would need one other citizen to second a motion to overturn the ruling and the entire city would vote on the ruling. If any council member is not performing there duties appropriately any two citizens can call for a "vote of no confidence" in the member of the council and a city wide vote will be held to see if the council member will stay or leave. In matters of ruling, if a proposed bill effects more than one council members area, the bill will be voted upon by the entire council. Judicial court rulings such as land disputes, theft. the Judicial council member would preside over the case. If a citizen felt they did not get a fair trial or they wont get one with the judicial council member they can appeal to be moved to the High Council court. where three or more council members would rule over the case. Any appeal is automatically approved. If at any time the council feels that they require more council members to manage the nation, they will need to have a unanimous vote to approve the addition of more council members. When adding members they will always be added in increments of two so the uneven ratio remains. The power to declare war will remain in the citizens hands since they are the ones who will be fighting, a majority vote from the citizens will be required before any formal declaration of war happens. Different members: Foreign: handles all foreign relations, and builds embassies and creates and manages treaties. will also handle the extradition of our citizens back to our city and protects our citizens while abroad. Domestic: handles all relations within our borders, will be in charge of starting new cities, and the trade that we do with those cities within our nations borders. City Operations: in charge of maintaining our zoning, maintains government/ public buildings, handles construction of new buildings. Also will handle finances and city materials. Defence: will be in charge of managing our snitch network and adding to that, will also be incharge of manufacturing of weapons and armor. and if the citizens decide to go to war, will lead the battle. Director of Justice: Handles all local and misdemeanor cases, upholds laws and settles court cases. Also can sit on the high council when a citizen has appealed his/her case to go to the high court. Once new cities begin to form within the republic they would be free to govern themselves but would have to abide by our human rights bill. Each city would deal directly with the Domestic council member. If a city feels that there interaction with the domestic council member is unfair they would need two or more citizens to call for a vote of no confidence in the domestic council member and the entire nation would vote on the matter. Nation wide votings will only happen for new term votes and for domestic inter city relations votes. If there is an issue within Aeon the votes will stay within the capitol."
