Shark Ultralight HZ251 Stuck

Hi! The post motor filter cover on my Shark HZ251 is stuck. Am I missing something? I bought it at a yard sale and the bucket filter was STUFFED with dust, so I bet the motor one is just as bad. It runs HOT. How do I get it off?? I've look at the manual (second photo) and it says to press the latch. I've tried everything. I don't want to break it, help!!
