Is cfm a good measure of suction power?

Post Body

I've been looking for a cordless vacuum and I really don't want a bagless, which leaves me with about two options, the Oreck pod and the Makita stick vacs. I like everything about the Makita, but I'm unsure of the power it has since I can't find many own sponsored reviews. On the specifications page, it says it has around 43 cfm which seems pretty low to me considering 50 is average from what I understand. Aside from buying the unit and testing it out, is there a way to determine good suction power?

I'm going to blame Henry for this conundrum, because if they were just release the quick here in the US, I would buy that.
