My reservations were scheduled for Feb - Apr, so last week I went on the hunt. I really want the $7500 tax credit this year. Hereās a recap of my ordeal.
I was looking for: Silver Mist or Moonstone or Pure Gray Galaxy with leatherette
Monday: I looked at 26 pages of search results from AutoTrader. Unfortunately, there is not a way to search for RWD only. I was pretty much using the price to gauge which ones were RWD. I was skipping all AWD vehicles. I made some type of contact with numerous dealers from New York to Florida. I have shipped cars in previous transactions, so distance was not a factor for me. I think 13 dealers contacted me.
Tuesday: There are RWD models in Fort Lauderdale & Marathon FL selling for MSRP $5,000. UGH. Then, I found a MY23 RWD model that has a status code of 30 (at port) in Baltimore MD. Tiara at Heritage VW in Parkville MD says delivery is scheduled 12/22 - 12/28. Thatās cutting it close. She sends me price quote & pic of window sticker. I verbally agree to place a $1000 refundable deposit. I ask for some wording changes on the form.
Wednesday morning: I receive a text from Jim Ellis VW of Kennesaw GA that says, āGood morning, sorry to bother so early. We just had a 2023 ID.4 RWD Pro S that is silver become available. Please let me know if you are still interested!ā I donāt know if this was an allotment car or a canceled reservation. Price is MSRP plus $399 for 3M tinting (take it off?); canāt they say; itās put on all their new cars. Place deposit; finalize most paperwork on Thursday. One overnight package back and forth.
Car is being picked up on Monday morning; same day delivery. It should be in my garage Monday night.
