Air in coolant lines
Post Body

Hey everybody, I come to you with tail between legs and utterly confused. So I bought my 84 westy a few months back and the seller told me that occasionally the temp gauge will pin and the light will flash at you. He told me “every Volkswagen van has this issue cause the engines in the back and the radiators in the front, just either jack up the front or pull it onto a natural incline and bleed the air out from the radiator nut.” So I drove it home no issues, then the issues began. I have gad the water pump and thermostat replaced as well as the radiator flushed and new coolant in the system. When I picked it up last night I drove about 80 miles and while the gauge stayed exactly still, I woke up this morning and cracked the radiator but just for laughs and a bunch of air bled out. Do you guys think it’s the infamous head gasket and cylinder head corrosion that’s extremely common with the 83-85 years. I should also mention, there are no puddles of coolant under the van or coolant around head gaskets. It just seems to be sucking in air somewhere.
