My avatar's face wont stay put

Hey so I have this avatar that was made with a default sad face so I've gone into the blendshapes (in unity) and changed the face to a happier expression and turned off the crying animation but when I upload the avatar and look at it in game he's still crying and sad and the blendshapes have reverted back to their original state.
What am I doing wrong??
