REVEALED POKÉMON
GYARADOS
Water good overall, Flying with Tera Blast to get a good flying move, Grass and Ground give it decent coverage and defensive synergy
TALONFLAME
No reason not to go Flying unless the meta really hates Flying types, Ground is a cool defensive option but Talonflame shouldn’t go defensive anyway
HOUNDOOM
Just go Fire with sun and nuke stuffs
RAICHU
This should never use Tera in the first place but I guess in a pinch Electric and Flying are the two options, in the Flying case it’s just to live and keep Lighting Rod alive for longer, don’t use Tera Blast
PERSIAN–A
I guess Ghost to survive a bit longer if needed
ARCANINE
Arcanine has good coverage so an offensive set could use a bunch of different options like Electric and Fighting without needing Tera Blast or even straight Fire. Going Grass helps recycle Intimidate more often
MAGNEZONE
Solo Electric is a good type so that’s an option, otherwise Flying with Tera Blast
GENGAR
It’s either Ghost or Fighting here, not much to be said
CHANSEY
If it’s viable, Ghost and Steel are the best defensive typings unless there’s a specific type that turns out to be defensively great in the meta
SCIZOR
Bug Steel is one of the few type combinations where Bug gives a lot of value so there are downsides in going solo Steel, but Bullet Punch would hit like crazy. Tera Blast Rock is a good option to turn around an unfavorable late game but the trade off is huge so it’s gonna be a rare occasion
SYLVEON
Hyper Voice with x2 STAB hits like crazy so that’s cool, Fire can also be fun since Sylveon already gets Mystical Fire so it doesn’t have to carry Tera Blast
DRAGONITE
This one is going to be fun, Flying Dragon Ground Fire Steel and even Normal all are good in different scenarios and Dragonite could make use of all of them
AZUMARILL
Belly Drum sets need STAB Aqua Jet so it’s just Water. AV sets probably want either Water or Fairy, the typing is already good in itself that I don’t see any other Tera being worth running
TYRANITAR
Ghost seems like the obvious answer but I like Flying more for what it offers in terms of both offense and defense, unless there’s an abundance of Ice Rock Electric; Rock is good too
PELIPPER
Flying is probably the most consistent choice for damage and mitigating Grass power against rain teams, but I can see Ground being used just to preserve Drizzle in desperate situations
GARDEVOIR
Fighting and Fire give it much needed coverage against Steel, Psychic and Fairy can be good but only if the meta allows it
BRELOOM
Going Rock with Rock Tomb is probably a federal offense, sticking to Grass or Fighting is more solid
HARIYAMA
Unless you’re so scared of Ghost types that you need Tera Dark and Knock Off, Fighting is just superior
SABLEYE
Steel for survivability
SALAMENCE
Good enough coverage where Dragon Flying Fire Ground are all good on physical and special sets without having to use a slot for Tera Blast
STARAPTOR
Most sets are going to run Normal Flying Fighting move so just pick one of those to empower if needed, depends on team comp
DRIFBLIM
Trust me you don’t need a Flying move on Drifblim, you have to pick between Ghost for added damage or living a couple more turns to set up Tailwind once more, in which case it’s Dark
BRONZONG
Solo Steel doesn’t look too bad with Levitate or Heatproof
HONCHKROW
This one’s interesting as it’s going to be Flying or Dark most times, but Ground Fighting Fire all have a place
LUCARIO
No good coverage moves and a typing that doesn’t benefit too much from another Tera to the point that it should run Fighting or Steel
GALLADE
I guess you can go Dark but it’s better to stick to Fighting and Psychic depending on the meta
ROTOM
Have fun with thesee
EELEKTROSS
Electric
HYDREIGON
Steel with Levitate and the chance to turn around the matchup against Fairy types is insanely good, Fire can also be a thing but it looks less reliable
LYCANROC-DUSK
Fighting is the only one I can see do something, besides Rock, but Tera Blast not making contact is sad
MUDSDALE
I’m curious about what’s going to happen with this one, there are so many possibilities but all of them look subpar so far so I don’t really know
LURANTIS
Fighting is incredibly appealing but the shared Flying weakness is sad
TSAREENA
While Grass is better overall, I have a feeling Ice and Fighting might be stronger in the scenarios where Tsareena actually wants to Tera
HATTERENE
Both STABs are good and I think Fire has the edge over Fighting as Mystical Fire means no need for Tera Blast
PINCURCHIN
Water is good for hitting Ground types better but the Electric Surge mon should not be a Ground type answer and it should go all in with Electric moves
GENERAL MINDSET
OFFENSIVE (Talonflame Gengar…)
First of all STABs are really good tera types, then it’s a matter of coverage available compared to needed; if they really enjoy being able to hit a couple enemies that they don’t have a coverage move for, then Tera Blast can be really good. It’s also worth considering a Tera type of a move that they already learn, so such a move is usable even if they don’t Tera. Overall their main focus for Tera should be offensive
DEFENSIVE/SUPPORT (Raichu Bronzong…)
You rarely want to Tera them so it’s usually better to pick a defensive type to survive one more hit if needed, although it will rarely come into play anyway
WHATEVER YOU CALL WHAT’S IN BETWEEN (Arcanine Tsareena…)
In this scenario the Tera should serve both offensive and defensive purposes; for example a Flying Tyranitar not only takes reduced damage from Fighting Bug Grass moves but it can also retaliate for additional damage. Note that in this case changing type also gives other weaknesses and takes away resistances so it’s pivotal to pick the right moment
NOTES
- I only talked about the Pokémon that are confirmet to be in Scarlet Violet
- I only talked about the Pokémon that I think might have a place in the meta
- will add more later if needed
Not a confirmed pokemon, but very possible given scizors appearance is Kleavor. Legends didn't have abilities, but we still know them from the meta data. Tera rock sheer force life orb Rock Slide from a pokemon with base 135 attack is going to hit hard
I'll throw one more Hisuian pokemon into the mix. H-Goodra. Better typing, better defense, and slower speed for TR. I mainly bring it up because its only 2 weaknesses are fighting and ground, both due to the steel typing. Tera-Dragon completely changes his weaknesses to dragon/ice/fairy, and still gives him the 2x stab for dragon moves. So it's pretty powerful in a pinch both defensively and offensively
