Hardware:

• main-GPU: 6900xt
• secondary-GPU 980ti - from my old machine
• monitor: Odyssey G9
  

Current Setup:
I have a working windows vm with the more standard 2 GPU pass through setup passing the secondary to the windows vm. I just did that to make sure I have the most basic system working on this new rig but the old trusty 980ti is probably not going to keep up with the resolution of this monitor.

The two states I would like to have with this rig:

1. Regular use - Host boots with the main-GPU and I can do my regular work and as much gaming as possible using Linux also known as the preferred state
2. Windows vm for specific games - Host switches to use the secondary-GPU hopefully without stopping any host programs from running... even something like OBS (streaming/recording software). The main-GPU is handed off to the windows vm until it's shut down, at vm shut down I am thinking full restore to the 1st state again without dropping programs running on host
   

Questions:

1. Is what I am shooting for even possible or am I not thinking of details like OBS or other programs needing to restart?
2. Can you point me to resources that go over this sort of setup if any exist (particularly the steps beyond a single GPU pass through)? The best starting point I have found is this guide for a single pass through
3. Is there some solution I am not thinking about like just running the windows vm on only part of my monitor so the 980ti has a manageable resolution?
