What I carry in my car - anything else I should add?
Post Body

I keep a "Get Home Bag" in the trunk of my car. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and my job is 17 miles away and across a major bridge from my home. If there was a major earthquake or SHTF situation while at work, I might be stuck or need to take a long and time consuming detour to get back home.

This is what I have in a backpack in my trunk

  • 2 liters water
  • 6 Cliff bars
  • Package of 18 survival bars with 200 Calories per bar
  • $100 cash in small bills
  • Knife
  • Leatherman multi tool
  • Spork and USGI can opener
  • Coleman first aid kit
  • Small bottle of ibuprofen
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Frogg tooggs rain poncho
  • Pepper spray
  • Lighter
  • Paper map of the area where I work
  • Notepad and Pens
  • Extra pairs of contact lenses and glasses
  • Small toiletries bag with toothbrush, toothpaste, contact lens solution, etc)
  • baby wipes
  • External battery charger for iPhone
  • A few snaplight glow sticks
  • Leather work gloves
  • 10oz flask filled with 100 proof bourbon

Also in my car's trunk is 6 additional liters of water, a blanket, change of clothes, pair of sneakers and extra socks, some canned foods, jumper cables, etc.

I'd love to keep a handgun stored in my trunk but don't think it would be a great idea for long term storage.
