Offering my observation AND potential fixes for a glaring gap in statistical metrics for support agents. When arriving at the summary screen post-match we get to see a host of stats that focus solely on DMG output. Even your final combat score and econ rating are based solely on DMG output. See below:
Total Combat Score:
- Damage: 1 pnt per dmg
- Kills (based on enemies alive 150/130/110/90/70
- Multikills: 50 per additional kill
- Round Scores: Viewed in timeline
Now lets look at the reality of how a support agent should play a map and use Sage as an example. Sage should be consistently healing, walling, slowing, rezzing when able, dealing DMG but letting carry agents get the kills which equates to better econ for the DMG out putters.
Sage should NOT be heading first into combat, wracking up all the kills, dealing insane damage, and being first on the K/D leader board (although it is fun to be so!).
So knowing this, how does the play style of a support agent like Sage get rewarded or reflected in your post-match scores? Well as I just laid out Combat Score/Econ Score are all about total damage, which you shouldn't be focused on as a support. Huh?
So there is a disconnect here in proper play style and having that proper play style reflected in scores/rankings. So below I have suggested some additional metrics to consider adding to post-match scores to have a more well-balanced play experience and actual tracking mechanisms to compare apples to apples against other support players:
- Damage Healed: X pnt per DMG healed
- Enemies Slowed: X pnts per second of slowed enemies
- Resurrection: X pnts per resurrection
- Wall DMG Absorbed: X pnts per DMG absorbed by Wall.
I understand these may be hard metrics for the software to track, but work with me.
I understand Sage isn't the only support hero, but you get the gist of what I am getting at with these suggestions and we can invent new ones for other support agents.
TL;DR Current Combat Score/Econ Score stats based solely on DMG out put, which doesn't accurately reflect how a support agent should be playing this game.
Hope I got my point across and we can have a healthy discussion, let me know your thoughts in the comments, thanks!
