Fellow 2A brethren,
I wanted to document my steps for my CHP in Loudoun County for any and all to use as a guide. This is an evolving post as I will update as I receive new information from the county regarding my CHP application.
- Download the newest CHP Application here: https://www.loudoun.gov/DocumentCenter/View/112247/Concealed-Handgun-Permit-Application?bidId=
- Email the County Clerk to setup an appointment here (because of Covid you have to setup an appointment beforehand to submit your application and supporting docs at the Loudoun County Court House): [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])
- Arrive at your appointment. Go through security (Covid Temp check and travel questions), than you will be asked to stow away your phone and smart watch prior to going through metal detectors. After you enter, kindly ask an officer/employee which way to go for CHP applications.
- That's it.
I'll update this post as I receive new information. The clerk's office said it can take up to 45 days for the whole process to be completed.
Here's what I brought to the court house:
- Newly updated and filled out CHP application
- $40 check made payable to "Clerk of Circuit Court"
- DD214 (Military discharge orders used as my handgun competency certification)
Edit: Loudoun Gov CHP website: https://www.loudoun.gov/954/Concealed-Handgun-Permit
Edit 2: grammar
Edit 3: Regarding Step 3, they have lockers you can stow away your personal devices in for free inside the court house entrance.
UPDATE: CHP received in mail today, 8/10/20, for a total wait time of 20 days! A lot quicker than expected. Hope this helps someone.
Update 1: $40 check cashed by Clerk's Office on 7/23/2020

Not a DD214-specific requirement, just one of things you can use to demonstrate competency. The link above has all the ways you can check this box.
