Question for those who own or manage small to medium sized used car lots.
Post Body

Hello, I am in the early stages of compiling data for a business idea and hope some of you can provide some insight.

I am a mechanic by trade and over the last few years have been gravitating toward doing mostly heavy line engine and transmission replacement.

My business idea is to rent a commercial shop space to service used car dealers when they have a inventory or costumer car (under warranty) that needs an engine or transmission replaced.

I know many lots have small service garages but I'm not sure they are staffed or equipped sufficiently for that type of work.

So my questions would be:

Is this a service that would be valuable or fill an existing void?

Do you already use 3rd party warranty companies to be as hands off as possible when these issues arise?

How often do you even have to handle such a repair?

To keep costs down I would plan on using used engines and transmissions from a regional parts broker.

Thanks
