Will connecting a powered USB-C cable from a monitor to a powered USB-C connector on a desktop work? Can I use the peripherals connected to my monitor this way?

Post Body

I have a Dell U2720Q monitor with a powered USB-C cable. The monitor also acts as a hub for a range of peripherals (keyboard, mouse, webcam, speakers, etc.etc). I typically plug the monitors powered USB-C cable into my laptop and everything "just works".

I would like to add my old desktop PC to this setup for as little additional cost as possible.

My thinking is that I do the following:

  1. Connect the HDMI cable of my desktop PC graphics card to the HDMI port on the monitor.
  2. Install this StarTech 2-Port USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 (10Gbps) PCIe Card into the desktop PC

When I want to use the desktop PC I then:

  1. Connect the powered USB-C cable from the monitor to the PCIe card's USB-C port
  2. Switch the input on the monitor from USB-C to HDMI

Will this solution work?

One concern I have is whether or not a USB-C cable be plugged into the PCIe card's USB-C port in this way - given that both of them will be powered.
