Alternatives to azithro? Allergies.
Post Body

Hi everyone,

I’ve (25, m) been dealing with this for about a month now. Finally tested positive for ureaplasma a week ago, and was prescribed a 10 day course of levofloxacin (I was also originally on doxycycline for a few days until one doctor told me to stop bc they didn’t believe I had an infection). My symptoms started to improve after day 3 and by day 5 I reached where I am now. All of my symptoms have resolved (pelvic pain, frequency, urgency) except for some mild pain while urinating. I have two days left of the levofloxacin (with no side effects, thankfully) and have plans to get retested in a few weeks to confirm successful treatment.

My question is this: the first line treatment seems to be doxy azithro. Unfortunately I’m allergic to azithromycin, although I can take doxycycline. Have any of you found success with another antibiotic combined with doxy?

Hopefully I won’t need it, and my current symptoms are just residual ones that will resolve in time — but it’s good to be prepared just in case!
