When I was growing up, bloody Mary wasn't really solidified as a terrifying women who would kill those who did the whole mirror thing. In Ipswich (Suffolk, England) there was an older version of the character, similar in some ways to the newer version.
If you find yourself in Ipswich (my condolences) you'll find a place called Christchurch Park, one of the many now public parks that used to be private estates, which will be just off the town centre. At the far end of the park, near the playground, you'll see a very old oak tree on top of a hill overlooking a valley and foot path. This is called stoner hill, and acts as a centre point for goths, hipsters and stoners alike.
As for the bloody Mary part, you'll have to go to stoners’ hill near midnight. Once it gets to around midnight (unlike most creepy pastas, nobody's picky on the time as long as it's around midnight) the story is that you walk around the tree 3 times, and every time you get to your starting point, you have to say bloody Mary.
Once this part is done, bloody Mary was said to appear, and begin hunting you. As with most small town myths, what she looks like differs depending on who you ask. At school, i was told that she wore a grey ball gown, with a pale dead face and a horrible yellow-toothed grimace. My favourite tale is the one my brother told me, where she wore a similar gown, but her neck is sickeningly bent at an angle, with pale eyes, blue complexion and a broken jaw which hung and stretched her face so her mouth was hanging open (I had very responsible siblings).
There weren't any 'get out of jail free' cards for this myth. Once you had finished chanting, any attempt to flee to the gates would just be met with continuous country side, with Mary chasing you the whole time.
