Sunday tends to be my day to prep for the week and tinker with new things. On today's docket is:
Sourdough from my starter (born Feb. 4th, we'll have a birthday next year if I manage to keep him alive that long.) I'm trying to switch to weight measurement in baking because I hear you get more consistent results, but to be honest, with bread I always add a little flour or water until it feels right.
Soap making - I'm experimenting with purifying re-used kitchen grease to make soap. I've made soap before and am batching a small normal batch so even if the experiment is a disaster I have soap until I can make a new batch. I've found that experimenting is grand, but it never hurts to have a solid backup in the event it goes horribly awry.
Stock making. It is making hte apartment hot as hell, but I need the freezer space so the veggie scrap bag is bubbling away on the stove.
What are you doing today? If anyone wants to discuss techniques for the above I'm around intermittently.
Cheers, and Happy Sunday!
