Don’t have much green space. Using planters for Milkweed. Do I need to be worried about Winter?

See title of post. The guy at the plant store said the roots will probably freeze over winter, requiring the milkweed to be replanted annually. Has anyone had success keeping them alive in 6b? Any tips?
