Client not funding escrow with whole amount
Post Body

My background : I have completed two fixed price jobs with 5 start reviews so I am relatively new to upwork.

I applied for fixed price job and after client accepted my proposal we had an hour long zoom meeting where they discussed details about project (should not have taken more than 20 minutes ) Some point to note from meeting - They showed me they have a lot of work lined up that needs to be completed - They were very informal with me on zoom eg calling me "sweety". - They told me they have gave me precedent over noteable freelancers because they "loved" my work. - They wanted the work to be done in 3 days or the contract will automatically terminate (i had no issue with that )

Once they sent me the contract on upwork it was only funded with $5 while project's cost was $150. I asked them to fund the escrow with whole amount but they said they don't trust and funds will be stuck in escrow if I failed to deliver the work . They told me they will give me more work and compensate for this project if I deliver the work on time. When I refused to work until escrow is funded they instantly cancelled the contract and sent me screenshot of other freelance who was willing to work.

Is it normal on upwork ? I checked this sub for similar situations but haven't seen any similar posts. Ps I checked client don't have any bad reviews.

Edit: thanks everyone this was really helpful and I am glad I posted here
