I'm a TR writer on Upwork and, I've got a bit of an issue with pre-job interviews. It seems like a lot of clients are either looking for free advice or they just ghost you after you've spent all that time prepping, cleaning up, and setting up the camera. It feels like all the interviews I've had were just a waste of time, rehashing stuff I already knew or answering questions they'd already asked. My portfolio and samples are pretty solid, and if someone's unsure, I offer a paid sample. But recently, people have been asking for more, like tips on selling books on Amazon and other advice.
I get that it might differ from niche to niche, like maybe some areas really need that face-to-face Zoom interaction. But for me, it's all about the writing, and I already ask for written instructions. So, sitting through an interview often doesn't add much for the type of work I do. Does anyone else feel this way, or do you find interviews helpful in your niche? I'm curious if charging for this time is common or if I'm just experiencing a unique set of challenges.
