EDIT (Nov 20, 2023):
Thanks for the overwhelming support!! I've created a quick Google Form (https://forms.gle/xdhsTe3914gtAzSJ8) to get membership information as required by UofT to get Student Group Recognition. I've also begun making a website (completely new to web design so please bare with me) and will make an Instagram handle asap. Any help is appreciated!
OG (Nov 19) Hey Peeps of UofT,
I was thinking of starting a club that basically just involves going to different music venues/events around the Toronto area. I've enjoyed attending various shows and bands playing in the evenings anyways and came to thinking it would be fun to see what the community is also enjoying and the local music tastes. Checking out different venues and sets lets me adventure around the city as well! (Venues with Live Music: Horseshoe Tavern, The Dakota Tavern, The Cameron House, Burdock Music Hall, The Garrison, Drake Hotel (Underground), Danforth Music Hall, Massey, The Baby G etc...) (Genres: Pop, Country, Indie, Rock, Hip-Hop, EDM, Blues, Classical etc...)
It would also be a good way to let out some steam, rest and relax, and meet different people while enjoying a wide genre of music. Fair warning, it won't be a sponsored event so you'd buy your own tickets (average $15-30 a show). Unless there are sponsors (which would hopefully come from networking), it would ultimately be more of a social gathering with a focus on the specific event.
Eventually though, besides seeing shows, I would like to do music showcases, especially those for up and coming artists and talent (But this would be a future plan). Or even branch to general events around the area to promote Toronto activity tailored for students (Live Plays, comedy shows, fashion, etc...)
If there's enough interest, I would need to look into setting some preliminary administrative and promotional stuff (website, social media, planning...), but throwing some feelers out first.
