I'm about to enter my third year and have doubts about my program choices. I'm currently enrolled in an economics major, math minor, and philosophy minor. I'm considering switching to an econ and math double major.
I really want to do a master's in economics or financial economics. An Economics and math double major is a much more attractive degree than a math and philosophy double minor and would help not only with grad school preparation and competitiveness but also with job prospects.
However, I'm concerned about my GPA. With my current program, I hope to graduate with a 3.5 with some hard work. But I heard the math major is very difficult, and a 3.5 is already on the lower end for good economics master's programs. I don't want to sacrifice my GPA for that, and I don't think the tradeoff would make me better off either.
I can make my timetable work for the switch; I can keep doing five courses/a semester with some bird courses included, but in my fourth year, I'd be doing all math courses to graduate on time. I'm not sure how achievable that is.
I was hoping some math majors on here could help me out. Is the program really difficult? Will it be impossible to get a 4.0 in some of the upper-year courses?
