Is it weird for a course to not check ids or anything for an exam?

I recently had an exam and I found it strange that they didn’t check our ids or anything for my exams section. This course is also known to be very competitive and it’s grades matter for program admission so I thought they’d be a lot stricter and do anything to prevent potential cheating
