In 1976, Rex Kable Keen was visiting Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, for a medical appointment. He checked in to the Lennon's Plaza hotel room on August 9th.
On the morning of August 14th, hotel staff cleaning the room found blood on the floor and immediately left and summoned the manager. Upon searching they found blood spatter around the room. Pulling back the bedcovers, they found Keen's body, He had been beaten severely and also stabbed multiple times.
Witnesses had seen Keen drinking with an unknown man the night of the 13th at a bar. Keen had ordered room service at the hotel that night at 10:30 pm, and staff had seen another man in the room with him.

This week, police made an arrest. Detective Inspector Damien Hansen said as part of an 18-month review by cold-case detectives, police spoke to witnesses, followed up on new information and re-examined forensic evidence.
"There have been advances in forensics that werenât available in 1976. The investigators have re-approached all witnesses and some vital information has come forward," he said.
A 69-year-old Bundaberg man, Benjamin Jansen, has been charged with one count of murder. The accused was not questioned as part of the original investigation. Inspector Hansen said he became a suspect after historical DNA was re-examined using current methods and previous witnesses provided police with more information than they had at the time.
Jansen was filmed stepping out of a detective's car and walking into the Bundaberg Police Station, wearing a holiday shirt, shorts and sandals. The now-retired sound engineer and cleaner is believed to have been living and working in Queensland for much of the past 40 years.
Inspector Hansen said the $250,000 reward for the case had not been claimed and was not likely to be.
Police would not comment on the alleged motive or weapon involved.
