Greg Armstrong was last seen May 7, 1997, and reported missing by his landlord 2 weeks later. Foul play was suspected, but a body was never found. A reward of $250,000 was offered for information about the case. In late 2018 breaks in the case led to renewed investigation.

Tony Boyd Carmichael, 45, was charged on Tuesday with the murder. Mr Carmichael appeared in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Wednesday where the matter was immediately adjourned until May 2.

His arrest came six months after police scoured parts of the Tuan Forest, north of the Sunshine Coast, after receiving a tipoff from witnesses.
