I recently learned about this case from Twitter, and was surprised to see only one post on it previously. Jody's twin sister, Jennifer Carrieri, recently put up 3 billboards in Baltimore, MD, hoping to find more information on her sister's murder. Carrieri was inspired by the 2017 film "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri." A lot of the information in this write-up comes from the website "Justice4Jody," which is run by Carrieri.

Jody LeCornu was a 23 year old college student at Towson State University studying geriatrics, working at a bank in her free time. Jody lived with her boyfriend, Steve Dubin, and they had a fight a few days before she was murdered regarding her heavy drinking habits.

After finishing work on Friday, March 1st, 1996, Jody went to a bar (Mount Washington Tavern) to hang out with friends. According to friends and family, this was uncharacteristic for Jody, as she normally would not stay out late and alone. Her apartment was located only 2 minutes away from the bar. Jody was at the bar until the early hours of March 2nd, and drove an employee from the bar home after they closed at 2am. After dropping off the employee, Jody went to an ATM and then picked up a six-pack of beer. She then went to a parking lot in Baltimore City, where she sat in her Honda Civic to make some phone calls at around 3:40am. One phone call in particular which is mentioned was back to the bar: Jody wished to speak with the manager, but was told he was busy.

A man drove up to Jody in a white BMW. He was a stocky man, and he spoke to Jody through her rolled-down window. After the exchange, he fired at her from behind. The shot pierced through the left rear passenger window, sliced through the driver's seat, and severed Jody's spine. After being shot, she managed to drive across the street into another vacant parking lot and circled it a few times, before succumbing to her wound and dying. The man who shot her sat in his car and watched, before approaching her car again, reaching in to take something from it, and then driving away.

According to Carrieri, there is video footage of the killer driving away, but the images are blurred by the snow from that night. Additionally, it is possible that there were up to six witnesses. The website Justice4Jody also mentions that there were fingerprints left at the scene.

Baltimore County investigators hypothesized early on that it was a random robbery gone wrong, as her purse was missing from the car, but the circumstances surrounding the entire evening are a little strange. Jody was normally an anxious woman, who would often ask coworkers to walk her to her car, and was afraid of being shot or otherwise involved in violence.

This year is the 23rd anniversary of her murder, so her sister has paid for three billboards in Baltimore emblazoned with the appeal "Find My Killer," as well as a reward of $100,000.
