What solved case comes to mind as having been the most difficult to resolve by detectives?
Post Body

For the purpose of this discussion, I'd like to exclude straight up cold hits (i.e. DNA information entered into CODIS or another database and matching to a known perpetrator), though cases that required additional legwork (such as the Golden State Killer) or that required a particularly alert investigator/forensic examiner's actions to solve (such as the case of Mia Zapata) is fine. Which case comes to mind when you think of a previously unsolved mystery that became resolved through wits, intuition, hard work, and/or luck?
