While browsing Charley Project, I came across this odd case--an entire family went missing in 1996, but it appears they disappeared separately. First the father was reported missing, then 12 days later, the mother & two children were discovered to be missing as well. The mother's brother, Kenneth(also listed as Byron) White, was questioned several times (he had prior convictions for kidnapping and rape, and had apparently threatened the family in the weeks prior to the disappearances) and committed suicide while awaiting trial for mail fraud. A bloody boy's sock was found in his trailer but police have not released whose blood was found on it.

Here's another article explaining the circumstances surrounding the disappearance, I find it hard to believe that the last time anyone talked to the family, the father was frantic over the brother chasing the mother and kids around with an ax, and yet they waited 12 days to report the family missing. There appears to be some discrepancies in the reports. And if the brother did do it, why has no trace of any of the family members ever been found? http://www.chicagonow.com/concerned-citizens-of-chatham/2012/03/what-happened-to-the-thompson-family/
