gun clubs at uvm

I'm from a non-gun background, and I'm hoping to get some hands on experience with actual firearms. my only question was what the culture is like in these groups; I've heard that many gun clubs are far-right, and I would like to avoid this kind of organization for obvious reasons. does anyone have any experience with these clubs, who could give me some insight?
