It's been about three years since I launched the first UReddit website. Several rewrites, ~75,000 registered users, and ~150 classes later, I'd like to be able to launch the newer, better platform that is the goal of the non-profit Open Compass that myself and our Board of Directors - Elliot (/u/thejournalizer), Philip (/u/DrPhilipBishop), Bob (/u/Schurthing), and David - have founded.
Unfortunately, our Kickstarter did not see the success we hoped for. Today is my birthday and the birthday gift I'd appreciate from you is a $10 donation to Open Compass in order to help us get off the ground this summer, in time for the Fall semester. All donors will be listed on the (soon to be made public) donors page if they like, and anyone leaving a mailing address will receive a handwritten thank-you note.
Here's the link:
Thank you to everyone that supports Open Compass, and thank you to our Board of Directors for working on this project with me despite the obstacles we've run into so far.
Edit: What will the donations go for? Well, Open Compass' platform has to run on powerful servers because it offers live video streaming of lectures for classes, full course management software, and so on, which is expensive. I can and have donated my own funds for this purpose, but, as a grad student, that hasn't been enough. Donations will be used to run the servers for development purposes so that we can finish off the beta early this summer, and the UReddit community will be the first to be table to take advantage of it all.
