Hi everyone. This Fall I'm going to be a PhD student at University of Houston. I'll be new in town so I don't really know about the neighborhoods although I've been researching but I wanted to hear advice from real people who had lived there.

I found a little house a few blocks from UH, 2 minute drive, 7 minute bike, but is in Third Ward, in front of Popeye's. I have a newer car (an Accord) and the house doesn't have gates or a garage, so it'll be off-street parking and I'm planning on riding my bike to school so the car will be there for several hours, that's my main concern. The other concern is that I'll be living by myself and I wouldn't like to be attacked or robbed while I'm home, or to live with the fear of being attacked or robbed. Do you have any testimonies that can give me some peace of mind when it comes to leasing this house?

I found another one close to the Gulfgate Center, is that area any better?
