So just a little bit of background, I have a Motorola edge 2022 unlocked from AT&T using on straight talk through Verizon network. A few months ago, I noticed some RCS chats got switched to SMS and I verified with the person I was texting with that they didn’t switch texting apps or turn off RCS. Everything on my phone is up-to-date except it hasn’t received a security update in over a year, but the Messages app and all the other updates are up-to-date. I’m starting to wonder if the carriers are going to gatekeep RCS to postpaid accounts exclusively and if this is the case, why doesn’t Google just do what Apple did with iMessage and make it where it doesn’t need the carriers to help leverage RCS just do it on its own just like WhatsApp or iMessage.
