Early park access line etiquette.

I’m planning a trip to Universal Orlando and staying at a Universal resort, so I will have early park access. I know that people often show up an hour before the early park time to queue for the early park opening. I want to get there early enough that we get to actually take advantage of the early access and not spend half of that extra hour just waiting to get in.

I am traveling with one other person who is older and has issues standing for long periods of time. He is able to walk around and we will pace ourselves and take breaks at the park, and I have purchased express passes to limit the amount of time he has to stand and wait in line. I know it’s not ideal but we want to make the best of our time there.

My question is about queuing for the early park opening at islands of adventure. Can I just stand in line and wait alone and let him sit on a bench somewhere until the line actually starts moving to let people in, and then have him join me? I know saving a place for someone else is frowned upon, but if he starts his day with standing for an hour, it’s really going to limit what we can do in the one day we have at islands of adventure. We won’t do this for any rides, it would just be for the early park entry so he can have less time on his feet. I’m just asking if this sounds like a reasonable plan.
