I’ve been interested in game development for quite a while, but I’ve never taken the leap. I’ve been terrified of my lack of motivation/fear of failure but I’ve recently been making a lot of changes in my life and I think it’s time I put effort into a new hobby.
I know myself well enough to understand that small projects, that I can complete and polish would be perfect for me to get enthusiastic and excited about a new and frankly a little intimidating hobby/passion. So far Unity seems to be the best option for me, given their learning program that they have. However I live with my partner in a room in our two bedroom apartment, while our roommate has his own room. Our apartment isn’t ideal for a PC and neither is our room, also the idea of being able to work on this project on vacations/in bed/out at a coffee shop, is completely thrilling to me and I know it would encourage me more knowing I didn’t have to wait to go home from work to work on it and that it would be readily available.
After researching all day I can’t comfortably nail down a laptop that would be ideal for me, I want the ability to make 2D projects without losing the option to test and potentially try and work on a 3D one. By no means am I going for photo realism or anything incredibly challenging but I do want to push the limits and have the ability to craft a game from the ground up and most importantly tell a story.
Budget isn’t really a question, but I’d like the options to be around 1,000$-1,500$ maximum. I’d like the ability to be able to port the game(s) to iPhone or to PlayStation or PC down the line when I’m a little more confident. Any and all help would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading!
Edit; Laptop recommendations!
