made simple pong in unity2d, now trying to add some more features

currently trying to add sound. First off, can someone explain the difference between 2D and 3D sound?

I added an AudioSource component to my Ball object, and wrote an audio.Play() for the collision check of when the ball hits either racket, however it does nothing. (yes the desired sound was also added to the component)

the script attached to the ball is in C#. very new to it. looking for any and all help
