How Should I Go About This? (Coding Question)

So basically, I have a tile map, and I'm making a farming feature. The way it is set up now is it checks the tile name, if tile name is tomato1 then update tile to tomato2 when action happens.
But from a scalability standpoint it doesn't make sense to me.
My question is, is there an easier way to set this logic up rather than having crap tons of code that checks every possible tilename for every stage of every plant?
