Fellow installers applying to join union at non-union shop

Post Body

I've been working at a non union shop as an install lead for hvac, mostly water heaters. Today one of the other installers sent me a link to apply for our shop to join the local union, most of the other installers have applied. I'm just not sure how this works, if the shop becomes unionized, would I need to complete an entrance exam?

My main concern is despite obtaining a college diploma, I never completed high school, and I know that's a requirement for the union.
