Around 1.2 million years ago an unknown human ancestor mastered the ability to manufacture weapons from Obsidian, a jet-black volcanic glass that is still hard to work on. These ancient humans did it without any protective gloves.

Obsidian is one of the easiest materials to make weapons and tools with. After knapping for only only a couple days at most, I made my first of many arrowheads. After two or three months, I was already making knife blades and constructing full tomahawks with pine pitch glue and deer sinew. This is no mystery. I have cut my fingers and have up quite a bit by getting careless but it's not difficult at all
