Here's a youtube clip of how to pee in public, but the concept works in many situations. Occasionally saying "I know" sells the idea that someone's monologuing to you.

Driving on private property and see a security guy coming? Stop driving and hold it to your head–you were trying to find a shortcut and needed to take a call. Rummaging through a dumpster? You were just going for a walk while on a call and got distracted. Stalking someone? On a call. Nap on a park bench? On a call. Sneaking into a building? Super important call with exasperated expressions.
