Hi guys!
I’m in a tricky situation with a optional language course my university and I need advice. Here's a timeline to explain what happened:
On Sept 30th, I registered for the course. On October 21st, the day before the first class, I went to the Language Centre to ask about the course details to decide if I wanted to continue. A staff member told me I could "try out a few classes" before invoices were generated to understand what it’s like. Based on this, I attended the first couple of classes. Anywho, after a few classes, I realized the course wasn’t for me and decided to withdraw.
However, the Language Centre now claims I’m liable to pay the full £375 fee. They argue that I made a commitment when I registered on Sept 30th. Moreover, their no-refund policy means I can’t withdraw without paying. The form I submitted confirms this financial obligation, regardless of whether I’ve paid yet.
I haven’t paid anything so far but its due in a couple weeks, and I find it shocking that withdrawing from an optional course at a highly-ranked and renowned university isn’t allowed, especially without any proper trial period. I wouldn’t have attended if I’d known it would result in these charges.
I feel misled by the information I was given, and this is a huge financial burden I can’t afford. Any help or advice would mean the world to me. Thank you!
