I wanted to change my field from urban equity work to nature/wildlife work. I felt so hopeless at times because of the many jobs I applied to that wanted an environmental science education and work experience, but I finally did it! Got a job! It's lower than what I would want but the field pays less, at least its full time, semi-remote permanently, 95% of area median income!
I couldn't have done it without going through the volunteer program and relying on my partner who paid for our living expenses.
I would highly recommend doing a master naturalist program if there is one near you, and you like nature.
