I wrote this up when I was working on a Greed-themed boss, and figured it'd be interesting if he tried to bribe the PCs with magic weapons.
Moneymaker Weapon
Weapon (any), uncommon ( 1), rare ( 2), or very rare ( 3)
This magic weapon generates a copper piece every time it hits something, either by a successful attack roll, or just tapping the weapon on a hard surface.
Curse: When you use this weapon (either hitting with the weapon or tapping it), you are automatically subject to the curse (no save), until it is removed by remove curse or any other effect that can end curses. If you lose possession of the weapon while you are cursed, you take disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks until you can reclaim the weapon.
The saving throw DC for the effects of the curse is 17 ( 1), 19 ( 2) or 21 ( 3).
During combat, at the start of your turn, you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or start tapping the weapon on a hard surface. You cannot do anything else aside from moving to find a hard surface or tapping the weapon. If you find a hard surface, you tap the weapon 6 times, generating 6 cp.
When you start a rest, you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or you must tap the weapon for an hour. You cannot take a rest while tapping, but do generate 3,600 cp for the entire hour. After an hour, you may attempt the rest again. If you succeed on the saving throw, you may take a short or long rest. You do not need to make additional saving throws for the long rest, even if you are conscious during the long rest (e.g. you are a species that isn’t unconscious during sleep, or if you are awake to keep watch). If the rest is interrupted, you must make the saving throw when returning to rest.
Even when the curse is removed, it leaves a mental scar that can’t even be healed with a wish spell. If you are subject to this curse again, you take one level of exhaustion for each time the curse has been removed from you, and you cannot recover these levels until the curse is removed again.
