As the title states, first year ump here, and Iām just too skitterish behind the plate on hard throwers. 10u and even most 12u Iām pretty good about staying engaged, but when I get to 14u some of the kids throw so hard I find myself jumping in the first inning until I really concentrate. Any tips to avoid this? Does it just come with time? I usually work a few 10 u games and a few 14u games a week. Maybe the back and forth is not helpful? Should I ask my assigner to keep me at the lower levels until I get more comfortable? Thanks for any tips.

I find the first 3-5 games per year I am still jumpy til I settle in. I agree with above, took a pitch on the elbow last night, 12catcher never put a glove on it
