False-negative for Inguinal Hernia on Ultrasound
Post Body

Hi

I was asked to get an ultrasound as I had swelling on the left pubic area and the doctor said it looks like a hernia. The ultrasound came negative for hernia and no cysts. My doctors said it is a false negative and ultrasound and asked me to consult a surgeon. I read the literature and it says there are very few false-negative and only for occult hernias but not for visible swelling. Any thoughts? I will of course be guided by my physician, but I want to have peace of mind until I see the surgeon.
